Adelynn's Birth Story

I haven't been able to keep up on this blog since i started my photography business but I need to write down Adelynn's story. I hope to get back on this so she has something to look back on like Rylee does.

We tried to have another baby for over a year. We started to look into getting checked and taking test to see if something was wrong. As i was waiting to take a test for the doctors i was waiting for my period so i could do it and it never came. Feb 2017 we found out we were pregnant with baby number 2. At 5 weeks i was already nauseous and got into my ob as soon as possible because I had weddings coming up and i needed medicine quick. Even with the help of Zofran i was throwing up multiple times a day. I had to eat all the time to help because if i didn't eat i would still dry heave. I feel like i found things that sounded good to eat better then when i was pregnant with Rylee, so that was good. Around 13 weeks i started actually feeling better so i was pretty certain we were having a boy. I got to the point i didn't need the medication anymore so to me i thought it was going to be a different gender for sure cuz Rylee i needed Zofran pretty much the whole pregnancy.

I showed around 12 weeks, enough that people felt confident in asking me when i was due! We decided to announce to facebook and instagram on Ester. That day was the day that Rylee understood what was happening. Brinley and Rylee were getting eggs at the park and i tried to have Rylee hold the ultrasound and she wouldn't but Brinley said she would and said "Aunt Jamee has a baby in her belly." The look on Rylee's face you could tell it just clicked. Ry said "Mom has baby in her belly" and from then on she was obsessed. She told everyone that mom had a baby in her belly.

May 23rd we found out that we were having another girl. It was funny because we tried to tell Rylee that she was getting a sister and she just yelled "no, i wanna puppy" haha the disappointment when you find out the baby in mom's belly is a human was pretty funny. The ultrasound tech was like "ah well i can't help you with that one" haha. Rusty woke up that morning knowing he was getting another girl that it wasn't a boy. I asked a few times "are you sure it's a girl" because my pregnancy was slightly different i thought it was a boy. She was 99% it was a girl!

To be honest here, this pregnancy worried me. Since it took so long to get pregnant I became okay that it was just going to be Rylee. I became content with that. We both kept wanting to try because Rylee needed a sibling but if it was going to take that much longer or if we were needing to do IVF we weren't sure we would keep pursuing it. So i felt like it was hard to switch gears and become as excited as everyone else was about it. I also had lots of fear of handling Rylee plus another kid. Although Rylee has grown tremendously in Preschool and her speech she still has her meltdowns and her OCD kicks in. I also wasn't sure i could handle another Rylee. So i kept praying that i wouldn't get PPD once she was born.

Then i got gestational diabetes. My glucose was in the 200s so i failed and failed it badly. That meant going straight onto a diet and trying to control my blood sugars there but that didn't work. I went on to MetForman and then to insulin. Being diabetic meant an ultrasound every week, a NST(non-stress test)  where i had to hit a button every time she moved while they listened to her heartbeat and monitored contractions, and meeting with my diabetic dr.  So the weeks i had OB apt i ended up with 4 doctors apts that week. The diet was hard. I lived off of peanut butter, cheese, and really ice. I think for weeks i was just starving. I never felt good. The only nice thing was that I stopped gaining weight. Which means i was loosing weight because the baby was growing but i wasn't. I got tired. Tired of being hungry and craving foods i couldn't have.

A few weeks before having the baby i ended up in the ER. We were on our way to IKEA and i started to loose my vision. I checked my blood sugar and it was 112. That's good not high or low. My eyes just could not focus. It was fuzzy. We got through IKEA as fast as we could. We got a dresser for Addy but i told Rusty if he liked it get it because i couldn't see it. We were checking out and I could tell my brain was not woking right either. I remembering asking Rusty who was his sister that was a nurse. He said Cherish or Moriah and i was like "no that's not their name" and he was like yes it is. For some reason what he was saying didn't seem right to me. By the time i got to the car my head was ponding. I must have said some more things that alarmed Rusty cuz he took me straight to the ER. Rusty's parents came and got Rylee and Debbie asked me if i could see her and she said my eyes did not flow to look at her that they seemed delayed. I got asked questions like who was the president and i knew to answer them but it felt like it took me 2 min to concentrate to answer them. Moriah was on the phone with Rusty listening to my answers and having Rusty read my machines and was worried i maybe having a stroke or a tumor. I got blood work done and they did a CT scan on my head. Every thing came back fine except my hemoglobin was at a 7. Which if i wasn't pregnant and bleeding they would have done a blood transfusion. Being there started contractions. So they moved me to triage . My contractions slowed down and i was finally sent home. Not really getting answers to why i lost my vision in the first place though. The good thing was that we now knew my doc's needed to be ready incase i hemorrhage during labor to be ready.

I felt like i was dying. That my 25 year old body was not handling this pregnancy. I was weak and could barely do anything because i didn't have enough blood to do things. I was ready to be done. My OB said they would induce at 29 weeks.

I did feel like the last month or so i started to feel better about everything but stressing on how we didn't have things ready for her. But we got it all done. Painted her room and got a dresser and got some clothes that could be just hers.

I tried and tried everything to get her to come at 38 weeks. Even castor oil like 3 times. The first time it did start really good contractions but then slowed down a few hours later.  I walked 3 miles a day and got a pedicure. My mom rubbed my ankles. I mean everything. I finally had my doc's apt and he was impressed I was at a 4 on my own and was okay if they induced me a day earlier. So my mom got really excited and drove up but then the hospital was so busy they couldn't get me in for 2 days. So i was bummed. I felt like i kept getting my hopes up that it was going to be the say and then had to keep waiting. So it wasn't a day early. It was exactly 39 weeks. I am glad though that she gets her own day for her birthday. It happens to be friday the 13th but the 11th was Leah's and the 15th is my mom's.

So now onto the birth story.

We finally got the call to go into the hospital at 10. They had me hooked up to the IV by 11. 12 the doc came into brake my water. I was shocked. Rylee i was there for hours before they did that but my nurse was like " oh i am pretty aggressive with my potocin " and the doc thought we could have her by dinner. It probably had to do with that i was already a 4. So they broke my water. It was a lot of water. The nurse had to hold the pad under me. haha. Being diabetic means you have more fluid though. My contractions ramped up from there. Except my contractions don't hurt me at all it's all in back. So i decided to get my epidural then.

Good timing too because my back started to really kill me. We got the epidural in and my legs went tingling my belly went numb but my back still hurt. So they rolled me over to try to "move" the medicine. It was not working. I had to grab the bed my back hurt so bad. My nurse could tell how much pain i was in so she said they could give me the elephant shot and that'd make me completely numb so we did it. It helped my back, finally. We then started to push before my doctor was even in the room. I had gone from a 4 to a 9 really quickly. But a couple pushes in my nurse got serious. She rolled me over which was weird and called in someone named Kate. I was like "who the heck is Kate" so i knew something must be wrong. My nurse then said we are loosing her tone and if we don't get her out soon, we will need to do a c-section. I saw my mom trying to not show it but she looked worried. She had to do an emergency c-section and she did not want that for me. Come to find out Kate was the baby nurse. My doc came in and as soon as he did baby's heart rate went back up. I could not feel anything. and i mean anything. So for me pushing was like pushing the top of my belly and i had no idea if the rest of my limbs were working.

I saw my leg fall off the stirrup and i thought "woah that's so weird"  because i couldn't feel it or move it back up there. I pushed and push as hard as i could. In fact my upper back felt like i shoveled billions of rocks for about a week after. Which means i probably pushed too hard. ha. The doc also to the point that he also said we need to get her out soon. He asked me if he could cut me or if i wanted to keep pushing. I said keep pushing and literally everyone's faces was like eh that's a bad idea. Rusty said " babe it's pretty tight" and so i asked my doc "well would i tear if i kept pushing" he said yes so i was like "oh then yes cut me." The way he worded it didn't register to me that i would tear if he didn't cut me. Dr Falk cut me and without me pushing her head pretty much came out and i think i pushed one more time and she was out. Rusty got to cut the umbilical chord. Everything was good after that.

Bath Time

Her name

Rusty wanted to name her Addy from day one. I told him i wanted a formal name for that because that'd be her nickname. So we decided on Adelynn. I kept looking just incase there was another name out there that would fit her. I was not finding anything. Rusty started calling her Addy and Rylee caught on. Except that she calls her baby sis Haddy which i think is so cute. Well until the last couple weeks i did find the name Kennedy that i thought was really cute. Addy is a very popular name and that sorta bugged me. Rusty said he'd leave it up to me to decide but he made it clear he still like Adeylnn better and Rylee was not having it to change her sis's name. Ry would literally yell " No my baby sis name is Haddy" "not ken blah blah" haha. It was so cute how she was so stubborn on it. But i didn't want a 3 year old making the decision on the name. I kept pushing but it wasn't a clear winner for me. I liked both names. They both had pros and cons in my mind. So i didn't decide till the hospital.

She came out and i knew Kennedy wasn't going to stick. So Adelynn it was. Rusty said he knew i would end up with that name which is probably why he "let me decide" cuz he wasn't worried. Now the middle name. For a while it was going to be Adelynn Marie which i really liked. But since I was a little girl i always wanted to put my mom's name somehow into one of my kid's names. I could never figure out how though. My brother josh gave me the idea just to use K. I thought Addy K was so cute! While in the hospital Rusty wasn't set on the spelling of it and wanted a little more to it so people didn't question what the k stood for. So we looked up spellings and then narrowed it down to 3. Kaye, Kae, or just the K. I then let my mom give her choices. She hated growing up that people always put a y in Kalene so she liked the last 2 better. So Kae because the middle name. Rylee Diann was after Debbie and Adylenn was after my mom. Both have the same meaning and i really liked that.

So Adelynn Kae was born Friday, October 13, 2017. She was 7lbs 15oz. 20.5inches long. Born at 4:38pm.

Immediately  she looked so much to me like Rylee did. They have differences but i think we are going to be able to tell they are sisters. Addy's hair came out just like Rylee's so i will be shocked if it isn't curly like Rylee's. I do think she has lighter eyes but i know those change. I am eager to see what she'll really look like. They change so much once they get some weight on them.

That's Adelynn's birth story.

Week 1

She's been a good baby. She sleeps 4 hours and did it from the start. She started to gag and choke on her spit in the hospital which was hard to want to sleep knowing that. The nurses kept acting like it's normal. Rylee never did that so this was new to me. She is also super gassy. Her burps sometimes don't come out till 2 hours later.  But that's the only time she isn't content is if she has a bubble or is starving.

My mom was here for a couple days and she would stay up with the baby and i would just wake up to feed her so i wouldn't have to worry about listening for her. She also cooked and cleaned and took Rylee to school. She was a nice help and i didn't do much haha.

We were a little worried about her bella-rubin but ended up she just needed a little more time. She never had to go under the lights. Also we had to do her hearing test 3 times. 2 times in the hospital and she passed both ears but not on the same test. So we had to go in yesterday and she passed both ears on the same test.

Rylee. She was very scared and shy at the hospital with Addy. She would not go near her. She would tell other people "hey thats my sis" but would say "no, you hold her momma." When we got home she was still nervous around her but wanted to help. She goes and get's her paci when she is crying or put's the blue hippo she got for Addy by her when she is upset. She gives her kisses all the time when she thinks no one is looking. She grabs her diapers for me and yells at dad that he is being too loud and waking up her baby. She still is uncomfortable holding her and i am okay with that. You can tell how protective she is and how okay she is with her being at the house. Rylee doesn't like other people in her house and straight up says "what are they doing in my house...get out of my house" to people and so i could see things going in that direction but she hasn't at all. Which i am grateful for.

We are headed to Utah this weekend so wish us luck! Yes, we are crazy doing it with a newborn but we didn't want to miss out and we thought it would be nice doing Halloween actually in nice cooler weather this year!
